NaN-tic opens the open source trends report for 2017

A NaN-tic article opens the ebook Tendencias Open Source y Software Libre 2017, published by OpenExpo and based on contributions from 42 experts in free technologies from across Spain. “Security at the centre” is the article signed by Albert Cervera, NaN-tic co-founder, and it highlights the need to accurately assess the security levels offered by technology solutions aimed at businesses.

The reflection is neither accidental nor trivial. Juniper Research states in a report that cyberattacks will cost businesses 2 trillion dollars in 2019, four times more than in 2015. The technological security or insecurity of businesses is such an important issue that one million jobs for industry professionals were created in 2016 in an attempt to prevent it.

At NaN-tic, we are fully aware of this scenario. That is why, last November, we organised a free talk on computer security as part of NaN-tic Bitz. During the session, two professionals with extensive experience in computer security showed attendees that the risks are real and that, too often, individuals and businesses expose themselves unnecessarily.

Computer-security problems are not exclusive to large multinational companies; they already affect everyone. Here too, open source can make things easier. Choosing open and transparent technologies makes it possible to know precisely which barriers and mechanisms have been deployed to prevent attacks and, of course, to strengthen and improve them. For this reason, businesses of every sector and size have understood this scenario and are increasingly developing their security strategies with open-source technology in mind.
